Love Mondays

So now half-term is over and the two eldest back into their school routine I can get back to mine.

Don’t get me wrong I love my children and spending quality time with them is great whether it be staying in and crafting or going on adventures, but since I’ve become a stay at home dad and I only have the youngest of three still at home I make the most of the time I get to myself, obviously I still have the house to contend with and it’s not so much time to myself but I have a semi routine and come Monday to Friday its pretty much the same.

Knowing on Sunday night that the children are cared for at school Monday through till Friday is a kind of relief I suppose and all I have to do is to pick them up when they finish it’s a nice break so to speak. From 9-3 I can catch up on recorded series on the TV or finish editing that vlog that’s been plaguing me, or just sit back and relax (chance would be a fine thing) but whatever happens I now love Mondays apart from crawling out of bed at stupid o’clock.IMG_1315

What have I learned About Me Lately

As strong and independent as I think I am I’m not. I’ve recently come to realise I can’t do all I can to resolve everything that life throws at me and that has been tough to swallow.

Thinking like this has worked for me for a while but in reality all that has happened deep down inside is I have become a shadow of my former self and now no one recognises me, not even my own family. I thought I was doing a good job and the right thing most of the time but alas not.

It’s funny but thinking back to when I was in my honeymoon phase of my relationship I felt like I was invincible and I could conquer the world, and up until now I have. I’ve tried not to let anything or one get in my way of what I wanted and succeeded.

But now as I’m approaching forty (18 months or so) It has dawned on me I’m not doing as well as I thought or could be doing, so as of today or maybe tomorrow I’m starting a fresh, a new me, a new man and more importantly a new husband and father.

Through the month of November I plan on joining in with #BEDN, blog everyday in November which is brought to us by the wonderful  Rosalilium

My 1st Time with a Pumpkin

So being married to a woman from a woman with dual citizenship of UK/USA and knowing how big a holiday it is in the states, you’d think that pumpkin carving and everything associated with it would be a given around this time of year.

Actually no, we’ve never really celebrated Halloween let alone contemplated such an undertaking of carving pumpkins. Addison wanted to do one so I said do one we will, without a clue. So I watched a few YouTube tutorials and afterwards thought to myself I can do this, in the mean time my sister in-law had decided to have a carving party and make a big deal of it.

So below are some pictures taken before during and after the aforementioned event, all in all I think the adults enjoyed it more than the kids.

I think they all came out wonderful, see if you can guess some of the famous characters? Happy holidays/Halloween

Who buys shoelaces?

So as many of you with children of school age will know, come the end of August it’s time to start shopping for all the essentials required for the new school year.

My daughter Addison was starting school so it was a very exciting time buying all new things for her. So as you do we had to get the school uniform, the new coat, school bag, reading book bag, wellies etc etc the list was quite extensive. Now six weeks in I’m told by Kara (my wife) that she (Addison) needs new footwear, something a bit more practical now the season has changed more protective for her feet instead of those open dolly shoes she wanted.

Without hesitation I said ok. What happened next came as quite a surprise. My wife came home from work I might add with a pair of reputable and well known shiny boots but with one flaw.

“Where are they from I asked” a little bamboozled, “oh one of the girls at work was selling them and they’re in mint condition they just need new laces!” If I remember rightly I actually took a step back, “need new laces I said why on earth, what happened to the originals.?” I have never ever even heard of anyone having to replace laces before in my life.

In all my working career to date I’ve worn lace up work boots, which have been in every environmental condition you can think of rain, wind and snow not to mention various work sites from muddy bogs of sand and cement to trampsing through landfill sites with decomposing household waste and rotting food around my ankles and still I have never had to replace a lace! (I’m a poet in my spare time)

Even my wife said she couldn’t remember having to buy/replace shoelaces. I don’t know what kara’s work colleagues child had been up to to require new laces and I may never find out but I now have a new first in my life I had to buy some new laces, but not for me I might add!

Here’s a thought what have you never had to buy?

I’m not always sure…

Like it states in the title “I’m not always sure…” about a lot when it comes to my disabled son Grayson, but I take each day as it comes.

I think I find it the hardest when he is ill. They say that as his parent no one knows him better than you which I think 95% of the time is true. It is difficult caring for him and with him not being able to tell you in anyway how he is feeling or what he wants other than in the way he has learnt, can be quite gut wrenching at times.

So when he is ill his disability’s seem so much worse, other than cleaning his nose and dosing him up on everything you can I just have to sit there and suffer so to speak. Watching him struggling to breathe and swallow through his mouth because his nose is so blocked, barely eating at the best of times as it is so when ill next to nothing on the food front.

But even after all this suffering he goes through on a fairly regular basis, he still manages to make me smile even when inside his own head he’s probably screaming “daddy help me”

And all I can do is carry on what I am doing I guess.

I love you Son xxx

The A to Z of me

The A to Z of me which may help you to learn more about me, kindly bought to my attention by @innocentcharmer.

ANORAK…Do you have a sad side? I’m a bit of a computer geek/nerd and I do enjoy housework, I get a real satisfaction once I’m finished. Although my wife did comment the other day that apparently I am a train spotter!

BODY…What physical attribute would you most like to change? I’m not to fussed about my appearance I’m tall which I love I’m well-built so I just need to lose some pounds off the belly.

CELEBRITY…Which one would you most like to date and why? It has to be Nicolas Cage, he is my film idol/god. No I’m not gay I just have a passion for this man’s work, he can play any character he puts his mind to and I would love to know him personally.

DÉBUT …Tell us about your first ever blog post. What made you start blogging? My first blog was really just to say who I am and why I’m doing it. I suppose I started mainly down to having time on my hands as I’m now a part-time stay at home dad and for me I don’t have any friends really to talk to about how I’m doing so I have my blog to say whatever I’m feeling.

ERROR …What’s been your biggest regret? There are a few but the most important is (see “unknown in this list”) probably failing at university which consequently meant I couldn’t provide well enough for my family.

FUNNY…Who’s making you laugh? My Children everyday they do something that makes my day. Other than them I think Jimmy Carr, Sarah Millican, Jack Whitehall the list is endless.

GRAND…If we gave you one right now what would you spend it on? I guess the correct answer should be bills, bills, bills – destiny’s child ha ha. Always children & wife they deserve it but if I was single then gadgets galore!

HOLIDAY…What’s your favourite destination? I think it has to be Las Vegas so far, only been there once but it was out of this world. I would recommend going to anyone. Plus my son Grayson was conceived there too!

las vegas

IRRITATE…What’s your most annoying habit? I really don’t know of any other than my snoring which I think one day will stop when the wife strangles me in my sleep.

JOKER…What’s your favourite joke {the one that makes you laugh every time you hear it}? Why was the six scared of seven? Because seven eight nine! Boom Boom Ha Ha gets me every time (from an episode of Mickey Mouse Club House)

KENNEL…Do you have any pets? No, but would love a dog, preferably a beagle I adore them so much.

LOVE…Are you single, married, engaged, living with a long-term partner? Married to Kara aka @innocentcharmer for nearly 11 years (13/11) she means the world to me and I don’t work properly without her!

MEAL…What’s your ultimate starter, main and dessert? Has to be prawn cocktail to start, then sausage, mash & beans for main and to finish off I think Eton mess.

NOW…If you could be anywhere right now where would you be and who with? It would be with my immediate family on holiday in Disneyland, Florida, USA.

OFF DUTY…What do you do in your spare time? Watch as many films as I can and surf the Internet for random crap.

PROUD MOMENTS …What are you most proud of? For me it has to be Kara saying yes to marrying me as I know she didn’t really want to & of course becoming a father to my three little wonders.

QUEASY …What turns your stomach? Pass…Nothing really that I’m aware of. Actually now I really think about it I detest olive’s with a vengeance!!

RELAX…How do you relax? Alcohol and a film or if I’m on my own…please keep it clean I was going to say very, very loud music!

SONG…What’s your favourite song of all time? That is very, very hard… I think it has to be “because of you” by Gabrielle It’s our song as in the wife & me. But there is a dance track which always lifts & calms me called “Ayla” by Ayla It features in Kevin & Perry Go Large.

TIME…If you could go back in time and relive it again, when would you choose? I think it would have to be one of two occasions, first would have to be my first holiday with Kara to Antigua it was just amazing in every sense of the word and second my wedding day so Kara could remember it and I could see how amazing she looked again.

UNKNOWN…Tell us something about yourself that no one else knows? I have four daughters from a previous marriage who I don’t get to see at all and haven’t seen since 2001, yes I am divorced too!

VOCAL….Who is your favourite artist? My God there are so many to choose from, I have very eclectic taste but I think I’d have to say the late Michael Jackson R.I.P

WORK…..What is your dream job, and are you doing it now? Sadly I am not. I always wanted to be a doctor I had the qualifications to pursue this career but unfortunately I didn’t have the support and backing of both my parents.

X-RAY…Any broken bones? Yes my little toe which was only a few months ago. I kicked a cabinet in the hallway that’s been there since we moved in nearly a year ago dumbass!

YIKES…What’s been your most embarrassing moment? Can’t think of anything…

ZOO….If you were an animal, which one would you be? It’s got to be a tiger I think they’re the real king of the jungle all buff just like me! Ha Ha
